Recent Advances in Application of Transcriptomics: Research on Heterotrophic and Autotrophic Protists

The application of molecular phylogenetics to research on protists has substantially transformed our understanding their evolution and systematics. More recently, advances in technology, including high throughput sequencing, opened new avenues for genomic analyses that elucidate major aspects protistan biology across all levels biological organization from cellular ecosystems. This is a review recent (particularly the last two decades) transcriptomic heterotrophic autotrophic within three topics: (i) Physiology metabolism, (ii) Development life cycles, (iii) Environmental ecological studies. Emphasis placed selection representative highlights findings diverse taxonomic groups each topics. Examples are drawn parasitic as well free-living taxa provide broad overview some strategies, findings, have emerged transcriptomics related techniques advancing biology.
